OUR MISSION

“The mission of the Union Presbyterian Church is to expand and enhance our ministry of service, education, and dynamic worship that is spiritually alive and inclusive of all.”

In addition to providing meaningful worship and Christian education for both children and adults, we strive to put our faith into action by supporting a variety of missions – locally, nationally, and internationally. UPC partners with The Presbyterian Church USA and John Knox Presbytery. Some of the support we offer is long-term, while other support is short-term. Our church’s Session approves missions that we support on a yearly basis.

MINISTRIES

Prayer Shawl

As Christ prays for us, so too, we pray for one another.
The prayer shawl ministry of Union Presbyterian Church is a visible symbol of the active prayer life of our church family. The shawls not only provide warmth and comfort, but they represent the prayers, hope, and love of the UPC family which are wrapped around the recipient.  Some uses for our prayer shawls include comfort for those undergoing medical procedures; as a comfort after a loss; during bereavement; during an illness and recovery; for a pregnancy and a new baby; in prayerful meditation; as a bridal shower gift; for a rite of passage… the possibilities are endless. The Union Church Prayer Shawl Creators group is open to all levels and interests of needle artists.  It is a ministry of the Deacons of UPC. Meeting times vary.

Haitian Connection

For about twenty years, Dr. Eric Anderson – one of our members and a doctor at the Monroe Clinic – has traveled to Haiti once or twice a year to participate in medical missions. Over the years, he has brought several of our members to help in these clinics that are held in both urban areas and in rural areas.

Dr. Anderson has a long standing relationship with several mission workers from Christian Veterinary Mission, many of whom have lived in Haiti for many years. We are always look to support this special ministry/relationship. To learn more about Christian Veterinary Mission, check out this link: http://www.cvmusa.org/
